MATCH REPORT: CREWE ALEXANDRA 1-1 BARNET

Barnet had to settle for a point in this Sky Bet League Two clash with Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium.

Tom Knowles’ stunning first half strike set the Bees on their way but were ultimately pegged back on 85 minutes with Zac Williams’ own-goal ensuring the points were shared in Cheshire.

Heading into this one both were looking to hold on their unbeaten runs, Crewe with their home run and the Bees with their away.

And despite a scrappy opening few minutes, it was Barnet who threatened – Danny Collinge heading over on 7 minutes.

Knowles would try his luck on 27 minutes, with his speculative 30-yard free kick blocked by Luke Offord.

But the moment of the game would come on 35 minutes.

Knowles again picking up the ball on the edge of the box who with a great touch and left footed effort, saw his strike rocketing into the top corner.

After going behind, Crewe would look for a response and on the stroke of half time Barnet would have Adam Senior to thank – denying Jordan Gibson with a fine sliding block off the line.

HALF TIME 0-1

Both sides would start the second half bright, Josh March would threaten for Crewe, with Bees Keeper Matthew Cox coming out on top.

Before Knowles’ long throw would cause danger, the ball would fall to Nnamdi Ofoborh but at the vital moment he would lose his footing, and his effort would go wide.

Crewe would push for the equaliser and on 68 minutes a fine tackle from Collinge would sweep up the danger – but ultimately the pressure would continue to build.

But it was Barnet would could’ve further extended their lead.

A smart move involving Brandon Comley and Collinge saw the ball making its way to Oisin Gallagher who at the vital moment saw his effort blocked.

However, the equaliser would come on 85 minutes – an outstretched Williams unfortunate to turn the ball past Cox in the Barnet goal.

The momentum would be with the hosts and on the 90th minute March would head against the crossbar.

But, this topsy turvy game continued to swing in different ways, this time with Barnet threatening – substitute Damola Ajayi breaking and testing Ian Lawlor.
