MATCH REPORT | BARNET 3-1 YORK CITY

Barnet returned to winning ways on Tuesday evening clinching a 3-1 victory over ten men York City at The Hive.

Strikes from Kabongo Tshimanga, Jake Reeves and Damola Ajayi wrapped up all three points for the Bees in what proved to be an entertaining clash in North London.

However, it was the visitors York who started bright – Joe Grey forcing Bee’s keeper Matthew Cox into action.

York would quickly have the ball in the back of the net seconds later, this time Mark Kitching finding the back of the net, only for the official’s flag to be to cut the celebrations short.

Chances would keep falling either way, Ollie Pearce threatening, whilst Oisin Gallagher and Jack Maskell went close for Dean Brennan’s side.

But on 37 minutes it would be the visitors who took the lead – a fine effort from Arthur Read.

This would seemly spur Barnet on and just three minutes later would restore parity, the man of the moment, Tshimanga converting after a smart turn and finish for his seventh strike in six games.

The momentum would certainly be with the Bees, with the half time whistle somewhat coming at the wrong time.

HALF TIME 1-1

However, Barnet would start the second period bright.

Tshimanga again involved this time forcing Alfie McNally into action, before firing wide.

But, on 53 minutes York would be reduced to ten. Hiram Boateng receiving a second yellow card for dissent.

Brennan would be quick to react with Tom Knowles, Nnamdi Ofoborh, Jake Reeves and Kane Smith introduced.

And it would be the Knowles who initially made an impact, with his fierce strike pushed over by McNally.

The breakthrough would come ten minutes from time, a fine edge-of-the-box strike from Reeves.

Substitute, Ajayi would soon become influential, initially linking up with Ofoborh who fired wide, before his mazy run and deflected effort wrapped things up on 87 minutes.

Barnet would have late chances to further extend their lead, but it would ultimately stay 3-1.

The Bees are back in action on Saturday, with a trip to Crewe Alexandra awaiting Dean Brennan’s side in Sky Bet League Two, KO 3pm.
