MATCH REPORT | BARNET FC 7-0 TAMWORTH FC | NATIONAL LEAGUE

Barnet hit Tamworth for seven in a dominant display at The Hive

The Bees started the game with the first chance when Harry Chapman’s advancing run down the left-hand side left him with space to cross but his ball into the box went over the bar.

Ryan Glover was looking to cause early problems for the visitors and did just that when his shot at goal took a block wide for a corner. The resulting corner allowed Callum Stead time to head the ball at goal, but his promising effort was cleared away at the back post.

The early pressure paid off when the Bees took the lead after seven minutes. An early contention for one of the goals of the season saw Zak Brunt with some excellent footwork inside the box before rounding the Tamworth defence and finding the back of the net.

Tamworth’s first chance of the game came on the fifteen-minute mark when Nathan Tshikuna’s first time shot from the edge of the box flew high over the crossbar.

In an eventful opening 20, it was the visitors who were pressing again when Tshikuna’s second chance in as many minutes forced Nik Hayes into a smart stop.

With 27 minutes gone it was the Bees who struck again. Some good play down the left-hand side from Ryan Glover ended with the winger’s effort finding a deflection before taking the ball past Jas Singh in the Tamworth net.

Reece Hall-Johnson was next to try his luck at goal, his effort from outside the box forcing Singh into a great save.

The resulting corner was to reward the Bees again when Zak Brunt received the ball on the edge of the box before firing a venomous effort right into the top corner to extend Barnet’s lead.

Half Time 3-0

Barnet showed no sign of slowing down in the opening stages of the second half and that became clear when Zak Brunt was fouled inside the box giving the number 17 the chance to seal his hatrick from the penalty spot. He made no mistake placing the ball past Singh.

Substitute Mark Shelton made it five when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box before landing an effort into the bottom right-hand corner.

Straight from the restart Callum Stead added a sixth when his shot from inside the box found its way into the back of the net.

With 20 minutes to go, Shelton was looking to make it seven but his shot from the left-hand side of the box was well blocked by the Tamworth defence.

Harry Chaopman made it seven when a low-cross from substitute Idris Kanu met Chapman on the edge of the six-yard box and he was on hand to place the ball in from close range.

Tamworth came close to a consolation through Miracle Okafor but his shot from a one-one was well saved by Hayes.
