BARNET FOOTBALL CLUB

MATCH PREVIEW | AFC WIMBLEDON

Barnet are finally back in action after an extended break away, with a trip to AFC Wimbledon in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy kicking off a busy October for Dean Brennan’s side.

Of course, victory for the Bees will confirm their place in the knockout stages of the competition with an emphatic success over Arsenal U21s last time out, setting Barnet on their way.

Tom Knowles’ first ever career hat-trick, added with Bright Siaw and Jack Maskell’s efforts clinched victory for the Bees in their opening clash and they will certainly be looking to continue their impressive form as football returns following the conclusion of the international break.

Barnet:

The Bees kick things off on Tuesday evening against the Dons, before league action returns with a trip down the M4 to face Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Dean Brennan’s side were last in action on 19th September with a 3-1 victory over Fleetwood Town which ensured the Bees remained at the summit of the Sky Bet League Two table, as they headed into the break.

The international call ups of Idris Kanu, Isiah Noel-Williams, Brandon Comley and Oisin Gallagher for their respective nations did mean the Bees missed out on action over the last few weeks, but as they return to the field sit in 2nd place and just a point off of the elusive top spot.

Barnet’s last five:

Barnet 3-1 Fleetwood Town – Sky Bet League Two

Barent 2-1 Accrington Stanley – Sky Bet League Two

Chesterfield 3-3 Barnet – Sky Bet League Two

Exeter City 1-1 Barnet – Sky Bet League Two

Barnet 2-2 Cheltenham Town – Sky Bet League Two

AFC Wimbledon:

It has been a positive start to the 2026/27 campaign for AFC Wimbledon, having picked up 12 points from their opening 8 league games, however, in their opening Jersey Mike’s Trophy cup clash did suffer defeat to fellow Southern Group F side, Leyton Orient – albeit on penalties at Brisbane Road.

Recent league victories over Doncaster Rovers and Bromley have certainly propelled the Dons up the league with recent draw with MK Dons and Cambridge United ensuring they haven’t tasted defeat in over a month.

In the dugout:

Former Charlton Athletic and Colchester United midfielder Johnnie Jackson currently occupies the hotseat in the Dons dugout, in what his second role in management.

The now 44-year-old began his career with the Addicks working as first-team coach and caretaker manager before being named as permeant Charlton boss in December 2021, he would later depart at the end of the 2021/22 campaign – joining Wimbledon just 13 days later.

Then in League Two, Jackson would guide the Dons up the league table, eventually beating Walsall in the League Two Play offs in 2025, before clinching a solid 19th placed finish last term.

One to Watch: Myles Hippolyte

A regular for the Dons this season, 31-year-old Myles Hippolyte will certainly prove a threat to the Bees on Tuesday evening.

Hippolyte leads the way in terms of goals scored for AFC Wimbledon this term, with winning strikes over Bromley, Wigan Athletic and Doncaster Rovers ensuring he remains an attacking threat for Jackson’s side.

A well-travelled striker, Hippolyte has enjoyed spells with Stockport County, Scunthorpe and Falkirk to name a few before joining Wimbledon in 2024.

His winning strike against Walsall in the League Two play-off final in May 2025 will certainly ensure he will always be remembered by the Dons faithful.

AFC Wimbledon’s last five:

Cambridge United 1-1 AFC Wimbledon – Sky Bet League Two

AFC Wimbledon 0-0 MK Dons – Sky Bet League Two

AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Doncaster Rovers – Sky Bet League Two

Bromley 0-2 AFC Wimbledon – Sky Bet League Two

Burton Albion 4-1 AFC Wimbledon – Sky Bet League Two

Last time out:

Despite a 2-0 friendly victory for the Bees the last time we met in August 2024, you would have to go all the way back to August 2017 for the last time these two sides met in a professional game, with Wimbledon coming out 4-3 winners in that EFL clash.

Ruben Bover, Shaquile Coulthirst and Andre Blackman all on target for the Bees that night.
