Barnet Football Club are delighted to announce that Nik Tavares has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club, keeping him with the Bees until June 2028.
The 27-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2024 and has since made 78 appearances in all competitions, establishing himself as one of the first names on Dean Brennan’s team sheet.
The South African-born centre-back made his Barnet debut in the second game of the 2024/25 National League title-winning campaign, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 win away at Ebsfleet United.
The defender went on to make 37 more appearances during the course of our record-breaking season, with 34 of those being in the starting XI, as well as scoring in our 3-1 win at home to Boston United, heading home from close-range for the second goal at The Hive against the Pilgrims.
Tavares was also a regular starter in last season’s side that finished just shy of the League Two play-offs, racking up 37 appearances and further cementing his position in the Bees’ backline alongside Danny Collinge and is now entering his third season in black and amber.
On Nik putting pen to paper on a new deal, Manager Dean Brennan said:
“Tavs’ deal shows the progression of the football club and how we value our top players. This is now his second extension with us, so it shows our mindset as a football club.
When the players do the business and the bar gets raised, they come along with that bar and we reward them as a football club.
It’s fantastic for Tavs and his family and the age, he’s in his prime, he’s 27 now so he deserves the new contract which is fantastic for all parties.”
Tavares added:
“I’m very pleased to sign a new deal with the club. The club’s been a perfect fit for me, we’ve achieved success together, winning the National League and then finishing just outside the play-offs last season.
Gaffer bought it up a while ago and ever since we spoke about it, I knew it was something I wanted to do.”
