OXFORD UNITED 1-0 BARNET

Michael Raynes scored a 95th minute winner to earn Oxford United a 1-0 win over Barnet at the Kassam Stadium.

The Bees were unchanged from the side who beat Morecambe 4-1 at Underhill on Saturday and hat-trick hero Dani Lopez their best chance after 19 minutes.

The home side’s net was broken twice in the second-half which saw five minutes added on and the Us took advantage as Raynes headed home from close range in the dying seconds.

The home side started better than their opponents but despite some early pressure they were unable to trouble the Bees.

Graham Stack was tested for the first time after 15 minutes when Damian Batt surged into the area and found Sean Rigg who saw his shot saved.

Four minutes later the Bees should have taken the lead when Luke Gambin smashed the ball across goal where Lopez was unable to connect from two-yards.

Moments later the Us had a golden chance of their own but like the Bees they failed to make it count. Stack was unable to hold the ball and it fell to James Constable six-yards out but he blazed the ball over the crossbar.

10 minutes later Constable threatened again when Scott Davies’ long throw fell to him inside the box and he smashed a shot against David Stephens.

With seven minutes remaining until the break Davies’ and Alfie Potter combined well to find Constable who was denied by Barry Fuller.

On another day Constable could have scored five but the Bees’ luck was in once more as the forward sliced the ball from six-yards after good work from Josh Parker.

After weathering the storm Barnet pushed forward in the closing stages of the half with Mauro Vilhete going closest when Luke O’Brien blocked his shot.

Oxford had another chance just seconds after the restart but Potter was unable to convert following Constable’s knock down.

The Bees first chance of the half came after 50 minutes when the lively Gambin drove to the byline and cut back to Mark Byrne whose shot was well saved.

Ten minutes later Rigg broke into the area and delivered a low cross that N’Gala fell on allowing Stack to gather.

Davids struck a free-kick wide of the post shortly after before leaving the field temporarily to receive treatment.

After retaking to the field the player-manager played a neat ball to Mauro Vilhete who struck the side netting and broke the net with 18 minutes remaining.

After a couple of minutes the groundstaff repaired the net… But the other side subsequently broke causing a further delay.

The Bees made an attacking finish to the match and Lopez went close as he flicked Byrne’s corner wide at the near post with 10 minutes to play.

With four minutes remaining the ball was in the net as Lopez’ overhead kick fell to Yiadom who smashed the ball home. However, the winger controlled the ball with his hand and the referee blew up immediately.

With 90 minutes played the net broke once more as Gambin smashed a shot into the side netting.

Five minutes were added on and the home side took advantage in the fifth when Raynes headed home from close range to seal the win and break Barnet hearts.
