MATCH REPORT | OLDHAM ATHLETIC

The Bees turn things around quickly in the second half as they grab a fantastic 3-0 away win to Oldham Athletic in the Vanarama National League.

As the game was underway, Oldham were showing the Bees that they weren’t going to make this easy for them.

As within the opening minutes of the match, the hosts were putting a lot of pressure onto Dean Brennan’s side, causing a real challenge on their hands.

Ryan Glover leaped in the air to clear away the ball from an Oldham corner, with a powerful header sending the ball back up field.

But just moments later the hosts worked the ball back into the box and Owen Evans was called into action, stopping the attack by catching the ball in the air from a cross.

Unfortunately for the Bees it didn’t stop there, the ball was later sent back down the left side of the Barnet half, getting launched back into the box with Owen Evans making another great catch to keep his team in the game.

With the clock ticking on, Barnet were able to start making their presents known in the game, taking the ball back from the hosts and looking for a way to slip through the defence.

The first real chance for the Bees came in the 19th minute, when Callum Stead lunged into the air to connect with a cross from the right.

He headed it towards the bottom left corner of the net, but Tom Donaghy in goal for the Latics made the stretch down low to make the save, keeping the score level.

As the first half carried on Barnet started to create more important chances, as Bees captain Antony Hartigan found himself on the edge of the box numerous times, testing his luck at putting his side in the lead.

Tom Donaghy and Owen Evans both put in great shifts in the first half, keeping the game level as it entered half time.

Half-Time: 0-0

The players returned to the pitch for the next 45 minutes, then suddenly everything changed.

Barnet came out with a much stronger presence, returning to the field as what felt like a completely different team.

Zak Brunt received the ball on the 50th minute, was quick feet he dribbled the ball past three defenders and found himself on the edge of the box.

With not even a second to think he struck the ball with power and accuracy, launching it past the keeper into the left side of the net.

After a difficult and challenging first half the Bees suddenly found themselves in front, gaining a much-needed advantage over the hosts.

With no time to even digest what just happened, Callum Stead fired the ball from the left, curling it perfectly into the top right corner.

Out of nowhere Barnet had doubled their lead, the hosts switched off from their first half display and found themselves trailing on home ground.

The Bees had fully taken control in this second half, stepping up the performance and determine to take those three points.

With less than ten minutes of regular still to play, Antony Hartigan placed the ball down to take a corner.

Whipping it in from the left, he found the head of Adebola Oluwo at the back post, knocking the ball down low, giving Barnet their third of the game.

The lead was increased once again and Barnet looked certain to walk away with the win.

With some last minute efforts from both sides it was done, the referee blew his whistle for full time and the Bees captured another big three points on the road.
