MATCH REPORT | BARNET FC 1-0 FOREST GREEN ROVERS | NATIONAL LEAGUE

The Bees struck late in dramatic fashion to claim all three points against Forest Green Rovers at The Hive.

Barnet started the game strongly when a cross met Nik Tavares inside the Forest Green box, but his header was saved by Jed Ward.

Callum Stead was causing problems for Rovers after 15 minutes when he collected possession the right-hand side before feeding the ball towards goal but his effort was blocked and cleared away.

Adebola Oluwo was able to defend against Christian Doidge when the Forest Green number nine was baring down on goal. Oulwo’s strong foot on the ball was enough to thwarter any Rovers chance.

With 26 minutes gone, the Bees were pressing once again with a header from Myles Kenlock in the box, but his header floated wide of the left-hand post.

With Barnet having most of the chances in the first half it was no surprise when Stead went close again from a Ben Coker left-footed cross.

Half Time 0-0

The Bees started the second half as they finished the first with the majority of chances. Kanu’s first time cross to the front post was well cut out by the visitors defence.

Forest Green’s best chance of the game came on the hour mark when Christian Doidge got his foot onto a loose ball in the box, he could only see his effort fly wide of the net.

With 15 minutes to go, the visitors were reduced the ten men when Sean Long’s second yellow card of the night ensured his side would have to soldier on with a man down.

With seven minutes of added time, the belief a Bees winner might have been brewing when a cross to the back post met substitute Reece Hall-Johnson but his header from inside the box was raised over the bar.

In the 94th minute the deadlock was broken in dramatic fashion when a well built-up attack resulted in the ball being played to Zak Brunt inside the six-yard box before poking the ball past Jed Ward to but the Bees a goal to the good with minutes to go.

The opener didn’t force Brennan’s men from shying away from a second, Stead had the defenders twisting and turning before forcing Ward into a great stop in the dying seconds.
