MATCH REPORT | BARNET FC 1-1 BROMLEY

The Bees registered a draw against newly-promoted EFL League One Bromley in their final pre-season outing before the 2026/27 League Two season gets underway.

Barnet started the match strongly, forcing a couple of early corners and driving at the Bromley defence down the right-hand side.

Five minutes into the match, Idris Kanu had an effort from the edge of the box that sailed just over the Bromley goal.

The home side were awarded an early penalty as Bromley failed to clear from yet another Barnet corner and the spot-kick was confidently converted to the goalkeepers’ right by Kabongo Tshimanga.

Just before the 20-minute-mark, Barnet felt hard done by when Tom Knowles pinched the ball off Bromley’s last man on the edge of his own box but the referee called for a foul on the Bromley defender.

Just four minutes later Bromley levelled thanks to a fantastic strike from J J McKieran from the outside of the area to the right-hand side.

Barnet kept pushing to go in front as the first-half progressed, forcing further pressure down the right-hand side.

Another strong effort from Bromley just before the break tested Brentford-loanee Matthew Cox in the Barnet goal, but this time the Bees’ goalkeeper was equal to it.

Barnet had a good chance early in the second half, as a cross from the left-hand side found Knowles who headed over from close-range.

With just over 15-minutes left, Our number seven was through on goal for Dean Brennan’s side but he couldn’t get a clean effort away.

As the final whistle edged closer, Knowles had another strike on his right-foot cutting inside from the left and the Bromley goalkeeper was equal to it but nearly let the ball drop for substitute Jack Maskell.

Former Barnet bagsman Nicke Kabamba was played through as full-time loomed, but Cox denied the Ravens’ number 14 with a strong save past his right-hand post.

Down the other end, Barnet went close to going in front, with some great play by Maskell that created a chance for substitute Bright Siaw who’s effort sailed just past the post.

Siaw then sent a great delivery in but once again a headed effort failed to reach the net.

Cox then denied George Evans from close-range to keep the game level; the goalkeeper closing down the attacker to deny a clean effort. 

Will Wright was then denied a winner for Barnet as his effort from outside the box was tipped over by Shamal George.

On the brink of full-time, Knowles was denied what looked to be a certain goal by an inspired George in the Bromley goal.
