Barnet have gone through to the next round of Middlesex County Cup after beating Broadfields
United 1-0!
Starting the game with the lion’s share of possession, Barnet could have gone 1-0 up in the 5th
minute. A powerful run from Marvin Armstrong through the midfield lead to a lay off on the right
wing to Jordan Cropper, flashing a ball across the face of the goal which Gary Hooper nearly got
on the end of in his first start for the club.
Barnet got their lead a minute later with a goal from Courtney Senior, who found the bottom right
corner with a driven shot on the edge of the box.
Ten minutes then went by where Broadfields grew into the game, knocking the ball around
confidently as they looked for an equaliser.
In the 21st minute, Broadfields recorded their first shot on target with a long-range effort by
Connor Spinks, which was saved comfortably by Jordan Gillmore.
Broadfields kept searching for their goal as the game went on. After a long ball from their
goalkeeper in the 36th minute, they received a promising free kick on the left-hand side, which
was cleared away by Gary Hooper.
There was then a break in play as Dale Gorman received treatment after going down in the 38th
minute.
After play resumed, Marvin Armstrong had another chance to double The Bees’ lead from close
range, but had his shot saved.
As the break ended, Danny Collinge and Adebola Oluwo came off for Dominic Revan and Finley
Potter.
Two minutes after the break saw Gary Hooper nearly make it 2-0, with the keeper making a
fantastic fingertip save from a powerful shot by the ex-Norwich striker.
Bradofields then responded well, hitting the crossbar and having a shot narrowly saved within
two minutes.
With multiple well-taken corners in a row, Barnet had to defend valiantly to keep the ball off the
line.
The game then settled into a lull, with neither team risking much going forward.
With two minutes to go, Hooper had the ball in the back of the net with a rebounded shot, but it
was ruled offside by the linesman.
Full-time- despite Broadfields putting up a good fight, Barnet saw off the away side in a 1-0 win
to put them through to the next round of the Middlesex County Cup
