Match Preview | Maidenhead H

Barnet FC host Maidenhead United in what is the second of two consecutive home games for The Bees.

The Bees sit level on points with “The Magpies” in 13th place, with a win for either side seeing them potentially move up to as high as 8th, should other result go their way.

The Bees head into the game following a 3-0 victory over Weston Super Mare in the FA Cup qualification round and will be hoping they will be able to take what they learnt and turn it into a run of good form in the Vanarama National League.

The Magpies also head into the game on the back of victory in the FA cup qualification round, as they put 2 past Eastbourne Borough to see them through into the FA cup proper. The Magpies are unbeaten in 4 matches and will be hopeful of continuing that form as they head to The Hive.

The two sides have met only 8 times, of those The Bees have come out on top 7 times with the two sides only ever settling for a single point once.

Nickname: The Magpies

Founded: 1870

Stadium: York Road (4,500 capacity)

Top Scorer: Emile Acquah (3 goals)

League Position: 13th

Form: LWWDW

Recent Result: Maidenhead United 2-1 Eastbourne Borough

One to watch: Emile Acquah

Emile Acquah, 22, has 3 goals from 13 appearances so far this season for The Magpies, averaging a goal every 313 minutes of football played. Emile Acquah offers The Magpies attacking versatility too, as he has played in both central and wider roles throughout the course of the season, proving to be more clinical as a number 9.

The versatile striker began his footballing career in the Southend United academy where he was subject to various loan moves to Harlow and even went to Maidenhead United twice on year-long loans. One year after his second loan to the club he joined them for a free transfer on a full-time basis.

The striker has spent most of his footballing career in the Football League with Southend United, but since leaving has now played in the Isthmian League and National League.

In the Dugout: Alan Devonshire

Alan Devonshire was born into a footballing family, his father Les made over 120 appearances for the likes of Chester, Crystal Palace and Margate.

Alan Devonshire kicked off his footballing career at Crystal Palace before being turned away from the club for being too small. After knocking on the door of many clubs he was finally taken in by West Ham United, a club in which he would make 358 appearances and score 29 goals. Devonshire’s playing career began its decline when, in the 1987 season, he snapped his Achilles tendon, putting him out of the game for over a year. When he came back to playing the Hammers had recruited a new manager and Devonshire had lost his place in the team.

Devonshire moved to Watford, where he would play for 2 years before joining non-league club Chippenham Sports as a player-coach.

The English international shortly left Chippenham Sports to begin his endeavour into full-time coaching, where he signed for non-league club Osterley as well as Brentford Women. Since he began his managerial career, he has managed Maidenhead United twice, Hampton and Richmond Borough as well as Braintree Town. The 66-year-old has managed over 1,200 games with a win percentage of 42.1%.
