Match Report: Berkhamsted 1-5 Barnet

The Bees kicked off their first pre-season match with a comfortable victory against Berkhamsted.

Two first half goals for Shaquile Coulthirst and Jack Taylor saw Darren Currie’s side 4-0 ahead at the break.

Lewis Toomey got a goal back for the hosts but Medy Elito hit straight back to restore the four goal cushion.

The Bees made a lightning start at Broadwater, it took just six minutes for the opener. Taylor did brilliantly to skip through two Berkhamsted defenders before poking his shot into the back of the net.

Just before the half hour mark, Dan Sparkes was brought down in the area as Currie’s men were awarded a penalty.
Coulthirst stepped up and made no mistake from 12 yards as he thumped home his spot kick, to double the Bees advantage.

There’s no doubt that the goal of the game came from Taylor as he netted his second after 34 minutes. The Irishman picked the ball up on the edge of the area, before unleashing a thunderous strike into the top corner from 25 yards.

Just four minutes later, the Bees had a fourth. Sparkes was once again involved as he saw his shot well saved by Xavi Comas, however Coulthirst followed in to tap home his second of the match.

The hosts came out the traps the fastest in the second half as they netted a goal back 15 minutes after the restart. A fast attack was headed home by Lewis Toomey to cut the deficit to three goals.

The Bees made an instant reply, as Elito applied the finish, after excellent work from the lively Sparkes. The midfielder caused the Berkhamsted defence problems all night.

Further chances came as Jack Barham saw his effort strike the upright. The striker went close soon after but his curling effort went just over the bar.

Currie’s men continued to dominate proceedings without the reward of further goals. But the Bees made it an exciting start to their pre-season campaign!
