The Barnet FC Youth Team kicked off their new season on Saturday with an entertaining 3-3 draw against Leyton Orient at The Hive.
Orient had gone unbeaten throughout their pre-season campaign, most notably claiming a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, but it was Barnet who began the better of the two sides, taking the lead after just two minutes.
A free-flowing move combining both passing and movement saw the ball find its way to Nana Emmanuel on the edge of the box as the midfielder produced an assured finish to give his side the lead.
Barnet’s dominance continued throughout the opening stages with the home side having the majority of the ball and the better of the chances. They doubled their lead midway through the first half when a short corner was cut back to the edge of the six-yard box for Joe Gater to finish.
Towards the end of the half Barnet were awarded a penalty, which was well-saved by the opposition goalkeeper before Leyton Orient scored from the resulting counter-attack to halve the deficit.
Orient pushed forward throughout the second half, and soon scored two goals to take the lead.
However, a change in shape by Barnet quickly gave them back the ascendancy, with Nana Emmanuel scoring a superb second with a curling effort from outside the box as their pressure finally paid off.
Barnet pressed for a winner throughout the final stages and forced some excellent saves from the goalkeeper before hitting the bar in the final moments of the game but were unable to find the winner as a highly entertaining game finished 3-3.
