The Bees U18 team recorded a fine away victory on Saturday, winning 2-1 away at Millwall, with a number of Barnet Under 16 players making appearances.
Barnet started the match brightly, mixing up possession and showing a good understanding of game situations. The Bees were put under pressure by a strong Millwall side with Dillon Barnes forced into making a good early save. A lack of concentration at the back led to another early chance for the home side – this time a great block from Ishmael Thomas kept the score at 0-0.
Barnet grew into the game and enjoyed some good passages of play before Tanasheh Abrahams was brought down in the box for a Bees penalty on the stroke of half time. Kamal Guthmy calmly converted the spot kick to put the Bees ahead at the break.
Millwall got back on level terms early in the second half via a clever chip over Dillion Barnes after Barnet’s defence was caught out playing a high line. However, it wasn’t long before the Bees restored their lead. James Charles beat his left back one on one and finished well to put the visitors back in front with half an hour to play.
Barnet defended well the rest of the match to see out the victory. They showed good defensive shape and limited Millwall to very few chances. Bees coach Tom Donati described it as “a solid team performance”.
