Weston: “It was a good three points”

Curtis Weston was satisfied with a solid performance from Barnet on Saturday, as they ran out 2-0 winners over Nuneaton Town at Liberty Way to move up to fourth in the Vanarama Conference table.

Speaking after the game, the Bees’ midfielder said:

“It was a good three points. It was quite a tough game, especially in the last twenty to twenty five minutes when they put the pressure on us but we withstood it well and rode it out and got a good result.

“It was important for us to get out of the traps early. The warm-up was good, it was nice and sharp and we got straight into it and got a straight start.

“They were a big strong team but I think we defended well. We switched off maybe once or twice but throughout the game I thought that we were the much better team and dominated.

“After we got to two nil we sat back a little bit more and just tried to control it and pop it around a bit. We’ve missed a penalty as well which was unlucky on Chaz, but if that goes in to make it 3-0 then we are cruising even more but it was comfortable in the end I think.”

Weston skippered the side for the final half hour after Charlie MacDonald was substituted, but insisted that the way he has approached his role as vice-captain so far means that he does not feel any extra pressure

when the armband comes his way:

“It has happened once before but it is not too much different for me on the pitch. Obviously I am always trying to be a leader out there on the pitch so it was just a case of carrying on doing the same things that I was doing.”

The Bees midfielder was particularly pleased with how the side bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Lincoln last time out, and is now targeting back-to-back wins on Monday to round off a successful Bank Holiday weekend:

“I think it was the best thing that could happen, having two games in three days after losing. There are a lot of points up for grabs, we’ve got three of them and now are obviously looking to Monday to get three more.

“It’s half a job done really over the course of three days. We’re looking to just recover as quickly as we can, get some fluids and some good food back into us and then go again on Monday.”
