U21s v QPR MATCH REPORT

BRAVE YOUNG BEES DEFEATED

Under 21 Team- Stadelmann, Hackett, Johnson, Khlay, Manitou, McCluskey, Aurore, Asanti, Allen, Sykes, Gumthy.

Score 3-2 Sykes pen, Gumthy
Barnet Under 21 development squad faced a very tough away fixture at QPR last Saturday. In what proved to be an excellent performance by the team against an experienced QPR side made up entirely of pros. The players gave everything for the team and worked incredibly hard for each other.
The game was an excellent example of how we want to develop our young players by getting the ball down and passing. On 27 mins the lads were rewarded with a penalty when Iffy Allen made a great run into the penalty area and was brought down, the resulting penalty was dispatched superbly by George Sykes. As the game developed the team worked hard to limit the home  side from having clear cut chances. Barnet could have gone two up when some good play down the left from Johnson, Gumthy and Khlay resulted in Asanti hitting the cross bar with only the keeper to beat. On 33 mins the home team equalized from a corner after poor marking allowed a free header.
At half time the team was asked to set about doing the same things defensively and keeping the ball better.
The second half started with the home team having a lot of the ball but unable to break Barnet down. However, on 49 mins the home team went in front from a shot just inside our penalty area. The most positive thing was that the players never gave up and went about their business in the right way. Barnet equalized on 73 min when Kamal Guthmy raced onto a through ball and lobbed the goal keeper, this is nothing more than the players deserved from their performances throughout the game. With 5 mins to go the referee awarded QPR with an extremely dubious penalty after hand ball.
All the players worked extremely hard and showed a great team spirit throughout the match and credit has to be given for their effort and a slightly unfair score line from a team made up of no fewer than 6 players still on scholarship form.
