Barnet got their season off to a flying start on Saturday with a 5-0 win away at Chester, meaning that the Bees sit top of the Vanarama Conference after the first weekend.
Also beginning their season with a bang were Conference new boys Eastleigh, who registered a convincing 3-0 win at Nuneaton, the venue for Barnet’s next away trip, in their first ever game in the fifth tier of English football. Former Bee Ben Strevens scored the third to ensure that The Spitfires sit just below Barnet in the table on goal difference.
Barnet’s next two opponents are Bristol Rovers and Lincoln City, who both come to The Hive next week on the back of 0-0 draws at home against Grimsby and Kidderminster respectively.
Meanwhile, Torquay began life in the Conference after relegation from League Two last season with a 3-1 defeat away to last year’s losing play-off finalists Gateshead.
