David Stephens has been named in the Npower League Two Team of the Week following Saturday’s stunning 2-0 win over Rotherham United.
The defender played a pivotal role as the Bee’s kept a second successive clean sheet adding to the one they picked up in another 2-0 one-week before against Bradford City.
Stephens has struck up a key partnership with on-loan Stevenage defender Andy Iro who has recently extended his stay at Underhill until 9 February 2013.
Iro, 28, waxed lyrical when asked about the defender who he has come to know very well both on and off the pitch.
“David is a really good player and an even better man so he is a great guy to be around and play with.
“We are also roommates and I think that building up that relationship off the training ground has helped us on the pitch.”
The Liverpool-born defender continued by expressing his hope that their partnership can continue to grow in what will be another big game against Fleetwood Town on Saturday.
“In this league you need a solid back line and I think that in each game we have played together we have got stronger individually and as a partnership.
“Hopefully we can continue that on the weekend and pick up another positive result because it is going to be another very tough game.”
