Once Mark Byrne put the Bees one goal to the good in the 2nd minute Barnet began to find the back of the net with great regularity to end up 10-2 victors against St Albans at Clarence Park this afternoon.
Minutes later Mauro Vilhete scored possibly the pick of the bunch when he struck the ball fiercely after being set up by the impressive left winger Anthony Edgar.
Also to get on the score sheet were Ricky Holmes, Jon Nurse (2), Ollie Lee, Andy Yiadom, Edgar (2) and Sakho Bakare.
Apart from Edgar, Ahmed Abdulla was impressive in central midfield in the second half with his intelligent distribution, skipper Holmes looked dangerous and Nurse displayed a poacher’s instinct with two neatly taken goals.
The only slight cause for concern was when Holmes needed to be substituted late in the first half for what looked like a back injury.
As the scoreline would suggest Barnet were considerably superior in every department but with only four training sessions under their belts part-time St Albans were not strong opponents.Â
Head Coach Mark Robson had pointed out that the game would be primarily an exercise in lifting fitness levels but the ease at which Barnet carved out opportunities must have additionally boosted confidence.
The Bees next face Charlton Athletic at Underhill on Thursday evening.
