New Barnet signing Ruben Bover hopes to make it in England after learning from some of the best while playing in the USA.
The 23-year-old signed for the Bees on Friday after undergoing a successful trial at The Hive London. Bover travelled to Carlisle United for Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Cumbria but was unable to play as he did not receive international clearance in time.
Prior to returning to England, where he previously played for Charlton Athletic, Bover played with Real Madrid legend Raul and Arsenal great Thierry Henry while plying his trade in the states.
“Thierry and Raul are on a different level,” Bover said. “Thierry is a superstar and Raul as well. They are all geniuses in what they do so you learn a lot each day for them.
“It’s been a great four years and it’s time to come back and try to make it here.”
Bover made a habit of winning silverware in Spain, helping the Red Bulls win the 2013 Supporters Shield – awarded to the side with the best overall record in the Eastern and Western Conferences – before winning the NASL twice with the Cosmos.
The Spaniard said: “In my first year with New York Red Bulls I won the first trophy in the club’s history which was an amazing moment.
“Then I went to Cosmos and in two years we won two titles and it was a great time there playing with Raul, Senna – Spanish legends – and I learnt a lot from them.”
