Report & Reaction | Newport County 1-2 Barnet FC

In tricky conditions, the Bees showed their attacking intentions from the early stages, Akinde and Watson’s both delivering dangerous crosses but to no avail. Just after 15 minutes, Bennett had a deflected shot hit the post.

The best chance of the half came shortly before the break, Akinde’s looping header was excellently saved by Day – the ball fell to Sweeney who turned and shot but his effort was cleared off the line.

Newport came out on the attack after half time and got a break through on 73 minutes. Jamie Stephens punched the ball out but only as far as Ben White who headed towards goal, saw the ball strike the post and go in.

Just two minutes before the 90 was up, Barnet were level. Jamal Campbell-Ryce floated a ball in from the left and John Akinde rose highest to head home and bag his first of the season and 50th EFL goal.

And just after 6 additional minutes were shown by the fourth official, Barnet bagged the winner. Campbell-Ryce again delivered a pin-point ball and Shaq Coulthirst scored the winner with his 10th goal of the season.
