Report | Notts County 2-1 Barnet FC

The hosts took the lead following a bright start. Rob Milsom’s 14th minute corner found Shola Ameobi at the far post and is looping header was bundled over the line with the help of Brisley but the veteran striker was awarded the goal.

Barnet looked to hit straight back, Campbell-Ryce set up Blackman who delivered a low cross but it was cleared by Notts County.

After the half hour mark, Ruben Bover clipped a ball in towards the far post, but it just evaded the head of Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro.

Following the half time break, Campbell-Ryce had an effort from 20 yards out deflected off a County defender and struck the station behind the goal.

However, just 6 minutes following the restart, Notts County doubled their lead. The Bees failed to effectively clear a free kick, the ball was whipped back in and Ryan Yates netted.

Craig Ross pulled off a great save soon after before Barnet made a double change, Nelson and Akinola coming on.

Ross was on top form, denying Lewis Alessandra superbly from close range. Stead tapped home the rebound but was flagged offside.

Notts County were forced to replace their goalkeeper and Akinola tested him soon after coming on, curling a shot on target from the edge of the box but Fitzsimons palmed it away.

Fitzsimons was called into action again soon after as Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro’s snap volley was saved.

Wes Fonguck fired wide whilst at the other end, Matt Tootle hit an effort from 30 out which went narrowly over the cross bar.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Barnet pulled a goal back. Simeon Akinola’s low shot from the edge of the box nestled in the bottom corner of the net and the Bees would look to push on for an equaliser.

Minutes later, Akinola would bet set through and look to play in Akpa Akpro but Fitzsimons beat him to the ball.

The fourth official showed seven minutes of stoppage time and the best chance for Barnet would come in the final minute of that.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro nodded the ball down to Ricardo Santos who was thrown forward but he fired over the bar from 10 yards out.
