It was the hosts that started the better of the two sides, Jack Barham delivering a good cross from the right-hand side that just evaded the onrushing Dave Tarpey.
Barnet would be awarded a penalty in the 6th minute after Ephron Mason-Clark was brought down. Tarpey stepped up to take and cooly slotted the ball home.
A Potters Bar free kick was palmed away well by the Trialist GK in the bees goal before Wes Fonguck went on a strong run through the visitor’s defence but he powered his effort over the crossbar.
Jack Taylor soon after wriggled his way into a shooting position but his effort was off target.
The match was played in three, 30 minute periods and in the second of these, Tarpey was unlucky not to double his and Barnet’s tally after he turned his defender, let fly only to see the ball cannon back out off of the crossbar.
Tarpey then stepped up to take a free kick which was 25-yards out from goal only to see his effort go agonisingly wide of the left hand post.
The goalscorer was brought off on the hour mark as he continues his return from injury, his replacement Benji Agahdiuno was soon in the action, firing a powerful effort inches wide of the post.
Aghadiuno was back in the action moments later when he curled an effort over the crossbar from the edge of the box.
A rare chance for Potters Bar came and went when their number 12 was given time and space, but his effort was poor and curled wide of the post.
Fuad Sule whipped in a very dangerous cross which was well plucked out of the air by the Potters Bar ‘keeper before it reached any Barnet player.
With 11 minutes left to play, Potters Bar were awarded a penalty when David Tutonda brought down his man. Despite claims of the foul being committed just outside the box, the decision stood and the visitors had a chance to equalise.
However, 16-year-old Aymen Azaze excellently saved the penalty, diving to his right. This was Azaze’s second penalty save in three days having also been equal to a spot-kick in a 6-1 win at Croydon on the previous Saturday.
In the final attack of the game, Wraynel Hercules teed up Antonis Vasiliou but his cross went beyond Jack Barham and out for a goal kick.
