Report | Accrington Stanley 4-1 Barnet FC

The Bees had started brightly, Alex Nicholls’ earning a corner early on. Minutes later, he found Vilhete on the overlap whose delivery was deflected behind.

Craig Ross pulled off a good save 17 minutes in from League Two’s top scorer Billy Kee’s downward header.

Accrington took the lead in the 34th minute, Sean McConville getting the ball inside the penalty area before firing high into the top corner.

A minute later, Barnet had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back from the spot after Jack Taylor was hauled down. Jamal Campbell-Ryce stepped up to take the penalty but struck the crossbar.

Stanley soon doubled their lead after the break. Alex Nicholls’ cross towards Akinola was cleared and Accrington broke. They delivered a cross of their own which found Jordan Clark who shot low into the net.

Barnet pulled a goal back a minute later. Jack Taylor drove at the Accrington defence before providing a through ball to Jamal Campbell-Ryce who fired low across the face of goal and the ball nestled in the bottom right corner.

However, just before the hour, the division’s top scorer did get on the scoresheet. The Bees tried to play out from the back but gave the ball away. It eventually found Billy Key who made no mistake.

The hosts made it safe in the 64th minute, Kayden Jackson beat the offside trap and raced down on goal. His initial effort was well saved by Craig Ross, but it fell kindly for the forward to tap home.
