Preview | Barnet U18’s v Boreham Wood U18’s – FA Youth Cup

Last Time Out

Both sides enter tomorrow’s game off the back of victories. The Wood were in BH Cup action on Sunday and finished on the right side of a 3-0 score-line against St Margaretsbury. Goals from Abdel Sahnoun, Bailey Stevenson and Charlie Wickham secured progression to the next round.

Similarly, The Bees are in high spirits after beating Cambridge United 3-1 at the weekend in the EFL Youth Alliance league. Joseph Taylor, Rio Connell and Antonis Vasilou found the net as Dan Senda’s side picked up their second win on the bounce.

Last Season’s Youth Cup Form

Barnet secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Wingate & Finchley in the opening round of the FA Youth Cup last season. Roy Syla, Benjy Aghadiuno and a brace from Greg Adinna ensured The Bees eased through to the next round. However, it was a different story at the second hurdle as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to MK Dons.

As for Boreham Wood, they were eliminated at the First Round. A 2-1 Second Round Qualifying win over Hendon was followed up by 2-0 victory over Enfield Town in the next stage. However, a 3-1 defeat to Bishop’s Stortford meant they were knocked out at the First Round proper.

Last Meeting

The last time these two sides met was at the First Round stage of this competition during the 2015-16 season, The Bees winning 3-1 on that occasion.

Opposition Manager – Cameron Mawer

Cameron Mawer joined Boreham Wood in 2013 as part of the side’s PASE Academy before taking charge of the reserves two years later.

On top of that, Mawer was promoted to First Team coach in 2017 before going on to take the role of Assistant Manager, a position he still holds.

As a player, he featured in the Football League for Watford and Peterborough United before winning the FA Trophy at Grays Athletic during the 2005-06 season.
