News | Q&A round-up

Just shy of 100 Barnet supporters were present for the event, with faces young and old in the crowd.

The Q&A lasted the full 90 minutes with a wide variety of different topics discussed, please see below a round-up of some of the key points discussed:

On returning to Barnet Football Club:
John Still says he turned down several Football League clubs to return to Barnet. This, along with a strong relationship with the Chairman, being another reason. He said he didn’t just join us to take us back to the EFL, but he wishes to take us further up the pyramid.

On style of play and squad size:
John Still and Darren Currie are both wanting to play attacking football that features good wide play. They both believe that we now have a strong defence.

It was also said that he would ideally like a squad of around 21 or 22 players with an additional 5 or so young, developing players that he can keep involved in the first team environment.

On developing future talent:
John Still mentioned that he is wanting to develop young talent, as he had done previously at the club with the likes of Marlon King and Darren Currie.

On John Akinde:
The Chairman said that the news regarding a fee being accepted for John Akinde was intentionally put out ahead of the Q&A so that our fans were left in no doubt about the current situation.

On playing a full strength team:
John Still and Darren Currie were in agreement when asked about playing a full-strength team in all three competitions we feature in this season (National League, FA Cup, FA Trophy).

On recent signings:
It was mentioned that some of our latest arrivals had turned down moves into the EFL to join Barnet.

On the captaincy:
A decision hasn’t been made yet on the captaincy for the 2018/19 season, but John Still said there were several leading candidates. He also said that he isn’t afraid to change captaincy midway through the season if necessary, stating an example at a previous club.

On the 2018/19 new kit:
The Chairman confirmed there will be a new kit for the 2018/19 season, with images to be released shortly.

On John Still joining the Over 50’s Walking Football Team:
John Still kindly rejected the offer to join the Barnet Walking Football Team, stating that he wouldn’t be good enough.
