Academy Manager Henry Newman says that he is looking forward to getting back underway, as the Youth Team resume their season on Saturday with a game away to Leyton Orient.
The U18s have not played since defeating Cambridge United 5-3 at The Hive, leaving them three points clear of second-placed MK Dons with a game in hand and just four matches of the season remaining.
Reflecting on the Christmas break and the prospect of this weekend’s return to action, Newman said:
“We are looking forward to getting the games back underway. We have had a few days off but have had a couple of training sessions during those days off just to keep the boys ticking over.
“Some of the boys were involved in that U21 game on Tuesday [against Oxford United] which was a tough game for them but we are ready to go on Saturday and looking forward to it.”
The Youth Team face a busy week, with Saturday’s game against Orient following by the rearranged fixture at home to Southend at 11:00 on Tuesday followed by the penultimate game of the season at home to Gillingham next weekend.
And with the U18s looking to wrap up the Football League Youth Alliance South East division title, Newman admits that it is an exciting time for the Barnet FC Academy:
“If we win these next few games we put ourselves in a great position to win the league which is something that this club, from an Academy perspective, has never even got close to doing. We are really, really looking forward to it and it is something that the boys are obviously desperate to do.”
