NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF BARNET FC IN THE COMMUNITY INDUCTED

We are pleased to announce that Shaun Sherrick, Mike Moate and Mus Kortach from the Barnet Walking Football team have recently been inducted as our new committee members of Barnet FC in the Community.

As well as the incredible work these individuals already carry out within the local area, using the power of the badge to bring people together, they will also now manage and oversee all actions and projects related to Barnet FC in the Community going forward.

The Barnet Walking Football team is an inclusive, community-based club, whose work both on the pitch and off, has earned national recognition, recently winning the “Community impact award ” at the London Sport Awards 2026 and they have also been nominated for the Dementia Care Awards.

The team runs dementia-friendly sports sessions twice a month and has just completed a series of monthly walking football sessions for MIND to help support better mental health, as well as recently holding its first session alongside Mencap, a charity that supports people with learning disabilities.

At the heart of it all are club founders Shaun Sherrick and Mike Moate, who over ten years ago bought the idea life to help create a better social, physical and psychological mindset for those over the age of 50 in the local area, providing a better quality of life and the opportunity for people to stay active, and improve their fitness and health.

The impact over the years has brought many accolades with it, including Walking Football Association Club of the Year and FA Grassroots Project of the Year.

Off the pitch, the group support local food banks and local schools, where they helped the build the award-winning community garden at Stonegrove Estate.

On the pitch, under Manager Mus, the team have won multiple trophies, enjoyed successful tours to Holland and Albufeira, where they won their first European trophy, and launched the club’s first Women’s Team in the Middlesex League.

With a “football for all” ethos, they’ve grown from a team into London’s biggest award-winning walking football club.

On the news, General Manager Corey Boyd said:

“It gives us great delight to welcome Shaun, Mike and Mus from our Barnet Walking Football Team officially into the Barnet Football Club in the Community Committee.

Their induction is a reflection of the outstanding hard work, dedication and commitment they have consistently shown in supporting our community programmes and the continued growth of walking football within Barnet.

Their achievements and experience make them valuable additions to the Committee, and we are excited to have them help shape the future of our community initiatives.

We look forward to working closely with them as we continue to strengthen our connection with the local community and create more opportunities for people of all ages to engage with the game!”

Shaun Sherrick added:

“11 years ago as Barnet FC fans, when the idea of developing a walking football team was put to us, we never dreamed that one day we would be part of the committee helping to guide the future of the club we support within our community, off the pitch with local charities and proudly promoting the name of Barnet FC on the pitch in European tournaments with a sense of pride and enabling us to grow our outreach even further.

it is a very proud day for us all!”
