Match Report: Exeter City 1 – 1 Barnet

A Curtis Weston header was enough to earn Barnet a point on the road against Exeter City.
Jayden Stockley’s first half goal gave the home side the lead, before Weston levelled things up in the 26th minute.
Things could have been even better for the Bees, but John Akinde’s second half penalty was saved by Bobby Olejnik in the City goal.
The Grecians had the first opportunity of the game, when Ryan Harley fired over the bar from inside the box with just two minutes played.
It was Exeter who enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the early stages of the match, and they were rewarded with a goal after 20 minutes.
A left sided cross from Matt Oakley was headed in at the far post by Stockley, to give the home side the lead.
However Barnet were level six minutes later with their first chance of the game.
Weston met Elliott Johnson’s pinpoint cross from the left wing – heading it past Olejnik for the equaliser.
Jamie Stephens had to make a diving save to keep out David Wheeler’s 37th minute header, as the game became more open in the latter stages of the half.
Exeter began the second period strongly, and Stockley’s free kick crashed against the left post with 49 minutes on the clock.
Akinde responded with a powerful drive from distance that flew narrowly wide.
The Bees top scorer was then felled inside the box on 63 minutes and awarded a penalty.
But his spot kick was low, lacking power, and was easily saved by Olejnik in the Exeter goal.
The Grecians almost went straight up the other end and scored – luckily for Barnet Wheeler’s shot from a few yards out flew over the bar.
Substitute Jake Taylor then headed Stockley’s cross just wide of the post with 11 minutes left to play.
Stockley had a chance of his own two minutes later when his half volley was just off target, as Exeter began to push for a winner.
An acrobatic stop from Stephens denied Harley late on, as Martin Allen’s men held on for a valuable point at St James’ Park.
Next up for the Bees is a home clash with Luton Town on Easter Monday.
