The Bees made it three wins on the road at the Mornflake Stadium this afternoon, beating Crewe Alexandra 2-1.
Despite finding themselves a goal down early in the second-half, a quick response from the Bees’ allowed Lee Ndlovu to net an equaliser 90 seconds later.
Cieran Slicker was hailed the hero, facing and saving two penalties from the hosts, before Ryan Glover rifled it home from close-range to seal the victory.
Dean Brennan made four changes from the side that lost at home to Shrewsbury last time out.
Nick Tavares made his first start since returning from injury, with Lee Ndlovu also starting, alongside captain Anthony Hartigan and Callum Stead who both returned to the starting XI.
Tommi O’Reilly had the first shot of the afternoon for the hosts, but it was off target and out for a goal-kick.
The Bees had an early corner and the ball fell to Kane Smith on the edge of the area, but his goalward effort was blocked.
Crewe looked to take the lead shortly after from close-range, but Smith cleared the ball off the line from Josh March and Slicker smothered the follow-up.
Smith played a great ball into Mark Shelton on the ten minute mark, the number 19 finding himself alone in the box, but he couldn’t steer his header in the right direction.
The hosts took control of the game as the first-half entered the later stages and thought they’d taken the lead a second time, but the ball didn’t find its way into the back of the net after leaving the boot of Reece Hutchinson.
Half-time: Crewe Alexandra 0-0 Barnet FC
Both sides had chances in the early stages of the second 45, but the tie remained goalless until the Railwaymen took the lead on the 55th minutes through O’Reilly.
The Alex didn’t have the advantage for long, as 90 minutes later, Ndlovu fired home from close-range to level the score.
Dean Brennan made his first substitution, replacing captain Anthony Hartigan with Nnamdi Ofoborh.
Crewe had an opportunity to regain the lead, with Josh March stepping up to the penalty spot, but Cieran Slicker made his decision and went the right way to deny the Alex forward from the spot.
Just shy of ten minutes later, Slicker was then faced with Max Sanders on the penalty spot, and denied the second spot-kick of the afternoon much to the frustration of the Crewe supporters.
An attacking change saw Oli Hawkins replace our number nine Ndlovu.
With ten minutes of normal time to go, The ball found itself into the Crewe box and after Ofoborh headed an effort on to the bar, it then fell to Glover inside the area and he confidently slotted it past Tom Booth to give the Bees the lead late on.
Ben Winterburn was introduced for the final stages for Idris Kanu and a further eight minutes of additional time appeared on the clock.
The Bees held the ball well in the final minutes and despite Crewe having a final chance for a late equaliser, were able to send the travelling Bees’ fans home with a smile on their faces.
