Goals from Callum Stead and Ryan Glover earned the Bees three points and back-to-back home victories at a blustery Hive against Accrington Stanley.
Dean Brennan made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park last time out in the league, bringing in Romoney Crichlow and Emmanuel Osadebe for Oli Hawkins and Mark Shelton.
The first five minutes of the tie presented little action, with both sides adjusting to the tricky conditions, with Idris Kanu having the first chance of the game for the Bees and letting fly from distance, but the ball was wide of the post.
The visitors first chance of the afternoon came when Stanley charged into the final third and the ball found its way to the head of Josh Woods, but the header was off target and the passage of play resulted in a Barnet goal-kick.
Adam Senior found Callum Stead in the area shortly after with a brilliant ball, but the number ten’s shot was parried away by Stanley shot-stopper Ollie Wright.
The Bees found themselves ahead through Stead, who struck from inside the area following some brilliant work from Kanu, and found the back of the net for his second goal in two games and his first in the EFL.
The visitors in blue had a chance to level the proceedings through Charlie Caton, but the effort was blasted over the bar from close-range.
Just after the half-an-hour mark, there was a huge mix-up in the Accrington defence and the ball was slowly rolling towards an empty net, but a blue shirt was able to track back and take control of the ball before it crossed the line.
The Bees came close again as the first-half came to a close and Kanu was heavily involved yet again, but Senior’s headed effort was nodded frustratingly wide.
Half-time: Barnet FC 1-0 Accrington Stanley
An early Bees’ corner in the second-half was taken by Nnamdi Ofoborh and although it looked like it may be heading straight in, the ball landed on the roof of the net.
Stanley’s captain Seamus Coneely had a go from inside the box, but his shot headed over the bar as the visitors started to get a foothold in the game.
As the clock hit the hour, Kanu drove towards goal with the ball at his feet, but he sent his strike off target.
Our first change of the afternoon saw Anthony Hartigan replace Emmanuel Osadebe on 65 minutes.
Another chance fell for Senior, with Ryan Glover playing the ball through to our number five out on the right-hand side. The ball evaded everyone positioned in the box but was frustratingly out for a goal-kick.
Another role of the dice saw Olie Hawkins come on to replace the injured Nik Tavares and the Bees continued to search for a second, with Stead having a huge opportunity, but the linesman flagged for offside.
Another effort fell for Stanley in the Barnet box, with Joe Bauress taking his chance, but again, the visitors saw the ball directed off target again. Everton loanee Isaac Heath’s deflected effort then ricocheted off the bar.
With the visitors increasingly growing into the game, Ryan Glover’s goal came at the right time to give the Bees a two-goal cushion with just over ten minutes to play.
Senior set up the number 15 for the Bees’ second of the afternoon, with a left-footed shot from the centre of the box finding the bottom left corner.
A double substitution followed, with Ben Winterburn and Ollie Kensdale coming on for the final ten minutes and Lee Ndlovu and Crichlow taking their seats on the bench.
Six minutes were added to the 90 and the Bees saw out the game, with a clean sheet secured to round off an excellent performance.
