Barnet collected their first three points of the season, after a John Akinde double sank ten-man Northampton Town at The Hive.
Akinde charged into the box on 63 minutes, drawing a foul from Northampton defender Jason Taylor.
Taylor saw red for the offence, before the Bees striker calmly converted the resulting penalty.
Barnet had to wait until the final minute of regulation time to add to their lead.
A pass from Luke Gambin was played through to Akinde, who rounded the onrushing keeper before rolling the ball home.
The Bees high tempo second half performance was the antithesis of a rather more sedate opening period.
A Graham Stack double-save stopped Northampton from opening the scoring after 13 minutes.
The Barnet custodian blocked Lawson D’Ath’s left sided cross, before stopping Sam Hoskins header from crossing the line.
Akinde fired a shot straight at Adam Smith in the Northampton goal after 18 minutes, but Stack had to be at his best again with half an hour on the clock.
The goalkeeper managed to block Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s back post effort to keep the scores level at the break.
Last season’s top scorer Akinde could have given Barnet the lead earlier in the second half; his turn and shot on 54 minutes flew just wide of the right post.
Andy Yiadom shot straight at the keeper from point blank range in the 72nd minute, before substitute Luke Gambin fired wide of the right post a few minutes later.
But Akinde’s goals were enough to seal the win for Barnet, who travel to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
