THE U’s

League Position: 3rd (P34, W19, D9, L6)

Last Result: Eastleigh 1-0 Sutton United (Saturday 24th April)

Manager: Matt Gray

Top Scorer: Harry Beautyman (11 goals)

What a season Matt Gray’s side are having, they are right in the midst of a title race, a position that many would not have tipped to be in at the start of the campaign. They have lost just six games all season and sit one point behind Torquay United and Hartlepool United, but importantly they have matches in hand on the pair. However, the U’s must win against the Bees to keep the title in their hands, anything other than three points puts the title in the hands of Torquay United. Gray’s side are currently facing their toughest spell of the campaign and have won just one of their last six National League fixtures, albeit only one of those matches ended in defeat. The hosts will be keen to bounce back from defeat when they face the Bees, the U’s fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Eastleigh in front of the BT Sport cameras.

The U’s still have to face Hartlepool United before the close of the season before once again meeting the Bees on the final day of the campaign. Gray’s side have found a winning formula consistently throughout the season, when they don’t win they regularly find a way to ensure they don’t lose, so there is absolutely no doubting that the Bees face a very tough task at Gander Green Lane.

THE BEES

The Bees continued their fine form on Saturday with a dramatic victory away to Altrincham on Saturday, after falling behind to two early goals, Simon Bassey’s side scored three unanswered goals through Courtney Baker-Richardson, Ephron Mason-Clark and Tomi Adeloye to snatch victory. The fact the Bees were a goal behind with two minutes left on the watch and still found a way to win highlights the immense belief that First Team Coach, Bassey, has instilled in the team. They know that facing high lying Sutton United will be a different task altogether, but they’ll head to Gander Green Lane full of confidence knowing that they are capable of tearing up the script this evening.

In terms of team news, the Bees looked to have got through the trip to Altrincham relatively unscathed, but Bassey may opt to freshen things up after a gruelling schedule of Saturday-Tuesday matches. Tonight’s trip to Surrey also signals the start of three games in six days, so freshness will be key if the Bees want to keep their good run of form going.

LAST TIME AT GANDER GREEN LANE:

The Bees played out a 1-1 draw with the U’s last time the sides met in August 2019.
