MATCH PREVIEW | SHREWSBURY TOWN

The Bees are back at the Hive again tomorrow for matchday seven of the 2025/26 Sky Bet League Two campaign, with recently-relegated Shrewsbury Town the visitors to North West London.

Barnet:

The Bees come into tomorrow’s game off the back of a Vertu Trophy defeat at Kenilworth Road to Matt Bloomdfield’s Luton Town.

Despite the 4-1 defeat, with Adam Senior denying the Hatters a clean sheet in the sixth minute of additional time, players that haven’t played regularly were given minutes and returning players such as Nik Tavares made cameos in Bedfordshire.

It was also an opportunity for new signing Ben Winterburn to put on a Barnet shirt and show the 404 traveling Bees’ fans what he’s about, creating numerous chances in front of goal in the second-half and almost heading home a delivery from Scott High.

In the league, the Bees’ currently sit 15th in the Sky Bet League Two table and have secured seven points from a possible nine from the last three fixtures.

Barnet’s last five results:

Luton Town 4-1 Barnet FC (Vertu Trophy)

 Barnet FC 1-1 Colchester

Cheltenham Town 0-1 Barnet FC

Swindon Town 0-2 Barnet FC

Barnet FC 1-2 Walsall

Shrewsbury Town

The Sallop currently sit second from bottom in the table, with two points coming from 0-0 draws on home soil and they are yet to record a win.

The Shropshire outfit recently ended a 10-year tenure in the third tier of the English football pyramid and are yet to find their rhythm this campaign in front of goal.

In Tuesday’s Vertu Trophy fixture against Walsall, The Saddlers were ahead inside five minutes, but Michael Appleton’s side were level five minutes later through 21-year-old Bradley Ihionvien.

The scoreline remained the same until the 67th minute, when Shrewsbury took the lead late on, before increasing the cushion when the clock struck 80 minutes.

The Sallop’s most recent league meeting was a 0-0 stalemate at home against Accrington Stanley, and despite having 17 shots on goal, the hosts couldn’t find the back of the net.

Shrewsbury Town’s last five results:

Shrewsbury Town 1-3 Walsall (Vertu Trophy)

Shrewsbury 0-0 Accrington Stanley

Shrewsbury 3-1 Chelsea Academy (Vertu Trophy)

Swindon Town 2-1 Shrewsbury Town

Notts County 4-1 Shrewsbury Town

In the opposition dugout:

The Sallop are coached by 49-year-old Michael Appleton, who took charge of the Shropshire club in March and couldn’t steer them away from the relegation zone. Appleton has an extensive managerial CV in the EFL, including spells Oxford City, Lincoln City and Blackpool.

Appleton has highlighted his team’s attacking football as one of his main highlights for concern so far this campaign, because despite creating plenty of chances in front of goal, his side have managed to score only three goals so far in the league this campaign.

The likely return of George Lloyd to the Sallop squad tomorrow will boost the club’s goalscoring options.

Ones to watch:

A player who the Bees will be watching out for tomorrow will be former Premier League midfielder Sam Clucas. The 34-year-old joined Shrewsbury ahead of the 2025/26 campaign and has proven experience at the highest level with Hull and Swansea City.

The Lincoln-born playmaker has over 440 career appearances and over 100 goal contributions to his name. Also able to operate at left-back, Clucas has threatening deliveries from set-pieces and does the defensive side of the game well, making 2.3 tackles and 1.8 clearances per 90.

Last time these two sides met:

The last time the two sides met was in the first round of the FA Cup at Crowd Meadow in 2016, with the Bees falling to a 3-0 defeat.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Hive tomorrow afternoon!
