MATCH PREVIEW | NOTTS COUNTY

The Bees play host to Notts County tomorrow in matchday 12 of the 2025/26 Sky Bet League Two season, where Dean Brennan’s side will be looking to make it six unbeaten and three consecutive wins on home soil.

Barnet:

The Bees travelled to Prenton Park last weekend to face Tranmere Rovers; the visitors being the side to bring the three points back to North-West London following the first ever competitive meeting between the two teams.

First-half goals from Lee Ndlovu and Adam Senior were enough to secure victory for the amber and black outfit in Birkenhead to make it five unbeaten away from home.

Anthony Hartigan was preferred to Emmanuel Osadebe in the starting XI, proving Dean Brennan made the correct decision, providing the perfect pass to assist our number nine with the opener.

With five shots on target out of a total of 15 shots and 26 touches in Tranmere’s box, the visitors were unlucky not to have scored more on the day, with Danny Collinge coming close on numerous occasions in the first-half and Senior and Idris Kanu missing golden chances in the second 45.

There will be a different face in between the sticks tomorrow following Cieran Slicker’s dismissal, with Owen Evans likely to be the featuring shot-stopper in our number 29’s absence.

Barnet’s last five results:

Tranmere Rovers 0-2 Barnet FC

Barnet FC 2-0 Accrington Stanley

Barnet FC 1(5)-1(4) Brighton U21s

Oldham Athletic 1-1 Barnet FC

Barnet FC 3-0 Grimsby Town

Notts County

The Magpies currently sit 13th in the league, with five wins, two draws and four losses to their name, only losing one at home, but on the other hand only winning one away.

The Nottingham outfit have won their last two league fixtures, scoring five goals in the process.

Last season ended in heartbreak for the Magpies, as they were knocked out of the play-off semi-finals to eventual winners AFC Wimbledon.

Their most recent outing saw a 3-1 win played out at Meadow Lane, with Oldham Athletic making the journey to Nottinghamshire.

The Magpies were ahead early in the tie when a cross from forward Alassana Jatta was deflected off Donervon Daniels into the back of his own net inside ten minutes.

Tyrese Hall doubled the hosts lead with a curling effort, with Jatta making it three shortly after the restart.

The Latics denied Notts County a clean sheet, however, when Michael Mellon saw Mathew Hudson off his line and lobbed the Oldham shot-stopper to close the deficit.

Notts County’s last five results:

Notts County 3-1 Oldham Athletic

Notts County 2-1 Barnsley (Vertu Trophy)

Crewe Alexandra 2-1 Notts County

Notts County 4-0 Crawley

Gillingham 1-0 Notts County

In the opposition dugout:

Following the dismissal of Stuart Maynard in June and a month without a head coach, the Magpies bought in Martin Paterson for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 38-year-old’s first coaching roles took place in America with various clubs, before coming back to England and assisting Michael Duff at Barnsley and Swansea City.

Paterson’s first Head Coach role saw him take the reigns at Burton Albion in January 2024, where he narrowly steered the Brewers from the League One drop zone that campaign.

A year with Huddersfield Town’s backroom staff followed before taking the reigns at Notts County.

One to watch:

The Magpies’ top scorer so far this season, Matthew Dennis, made an instant impact in a black and white shirt after turning down a new deal at relegated Carlisle United, with six goals to his name after 11 games.

The 23-year-old, who spent his youth days with Premier League side Arsenal, can score with either foot or his head, likes to get in behind and is a fast and powerful presence in the Magpies’ front-line.

Alongside other forwards Alassana Jatta and youngster Tyrese Hall, the Magpies’ regular front three already have 11 league goals between them.

Last time the two sides met:

The last time the clubs met was in the 2022/23 National League season, where Idris Kanu’s strike late in the first-half cancelled out a Macauley Langstaff opener in a 1-1 draw at the Hive.
