Match Pack: Yeovil Town 0-2 Barnet FC

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening 23 minutes were as expected; cagey. The Bees goal was threatened on just the one occasion as Worthington broke into the box before firing just wide of the far post.

Up the other end, Ephron Mason-Clark turned well before firing a powerful strike into the side netting. The Bees grew as the game went on in a half of very few chances.

The Glovers had penalty appeals waved away as the half came to an end after they felt Tutonda handled as he blocked a powerful strike.

The Bees had an early second-half scare as Wilkinson headed against the crossbar from a corner, thankfully it bounced clear of goal.

However 8 minutes into the second period, the Bees took the lead as Paul McCallum was set free by Mason-Clark and made no mistake as he tucked it home.

It was almost two just four minutes later as Walker broke at pace before shooting just wide of goal. The Bees starting to look like the side who had lost just one league game in 2020 pre lockdown.

The Glovers came within the frame of the goal to finding an equaliser, as a dangerous cross bounced off Eliott Johnson before rebounding off the upright and thankfully back into the path of our number three.

Then an absolute moment of madness as Yeovil felt they had bundled the ball over the line, however, the referee waved the protests away and signalled for a corner.

The hosts continued to pressure but the Bees defended resolutely throughout and to a man fought to maintain their one-goal advantage into the final 10 minutes.

The Bees defence were immense throughout and put their bodies on the line for the badge, it was quite frankly a heroic defensive performance.

With 7 minutes on the clock, the Bees sealed the deal as Mauro Vilhete was on the spot to head in on the goal line after a Yeovil defender diverted Elito’s cross against the crossbar.

The Bees defended bravely all afternoon and were clinical in the vital moments as they set up a semi-final clash with Notts County next weekend!
