Match Pack: Potters Bar Town – Barnet

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bees controlled possession from the off and played a patient style of football as they looked to stamp their authority on the cup tie.

On the 16th minute Josh Walker fired Darren Currie’s men ahead as he turned well in the box, before firing into the bottom corner. The goal stemmed from good work by Cheye Alexander as he beat his and whipped in a dangerous cross.

Seven minutes later Walker was involved again as he looked to squeeze a shot in at the near post but Scholars ‘keeper R’avan Constable did well to turn our striker’s effort around the post.

Jack Taylor nearly caught out Constable with a looping free kick which looked like it was on his way in, but the ‘keeper did just enough to tip it over.

From the resulting corner Pavey headed on goal but his effort was dramatically headed off the line by a Scholars defender. Our number nine ever so close to opening his account in an amber shirt.

At the other end Gogo sent a timid strike which was comfortable for Scott Loach in between the sticks for the Bees.

Four minutes into the second half and the Bees were awarded a penalty as Walker was fouled in the area. Pavey stepped up and saw his penalty well saved by Constable.

Loach had to be alert as the ball broke through towards goal, but our stopper was off his line quickly to smother at the feet of Andy Lomas.

Second half substitute Ephron Mason-Clark saw a curling effort sail over the bar as the Bees looked to wrap the tie up in the closing stages.

Elliott Johnson did well to tee up Jack Taylor, but the Irishman saw his shot comfortably saved by Constable. Taylor tried his luck again five minutes later as he curled towards the top corner, but the Scholars keeper did brilliantly to deny him once again. He then stopped Mason-Clark’s effort at his near post.

Into added time and it was the Scholars stopper in inspired form again as he made a superb reflex stop from Alexander’s powerful strike from the corner of the box. On another day the scoreline could have been much more comfortable for the Bees.

The hosts levelled with all but the last kick of the game as Andy Lomas scrambled the ball over the line.
