Martin: “We want to keep this run going”

Martin Allen provided an update on the condition of his squad this morning, as his team prepare to take on AFC Telford United at New Bucks Head tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to the Midlands, the Barnet manager said:

“Everybody had a day off on Thursday. We’ve got a group of seventeen fit players travelling to Telford tomorrow. Added into that is Iffy Allen.

“Charlie MacDonald is having a scan at lunchtime today and is seeing a consultant on Friday afternoon to let us know what the situation is with his knee. I’m delighted that our physio Jayde has acted very promptly to get him in and seen to.

“Obviously it is a concern about Charlie but the player that took his place the other night scored two goals so it is not too much of a problem. We have got some good players gagging to get into the team so they will all now get a chance.

“With regards to Mauro Vilhete and Jack Saville, neither of them will be fit this weekend and Keanu Marsh-Brown has things on the table and in the offing so at the moment I don’t feel that it’s right to involve him until certain situations are sorted out off the field.”

Barnet recorded their fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday night against Dover Athletic to move two points clear at the top of the Vanarama Conference, but Martin says that he is only focused on the forthcoming games with the Bees now due to play three games in a week:

“I think we played much better at Dover. We played with more freedom and expressed ourselves in possession, and I thought that it was a very comfortable win the other night.

“We obviously want to keep this run of form going. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work out that it is important just to keep the momentum going and not get too carried away.

“Everybody continues to do their jobs and practice and work to the good values that we have adopted on and off the field. We have now got two games in four days with Telford and then Wrexham so we have got to maintain our standards and keep working to improve and get better and keep this excitement going.”
