Barnet Manager Martin Allen was quick to praise his players in the wake of their 2-1 victory over Millwall at The Den.
Speaking after the game, Martin said:
“I thought that the players showed a lot of resilience to come out and put in a performance like that, after a tiring weekend.
“And I think that the real character of the group that we’ve got showed when it went to 1-1 – we didn’t sit back, we went forward, and we took the game to then again.
“I thought that we thoroughly deserved to win, that we played really good football, and I think all our players and the lads on the bench put in a fantastic effort.
“I’m pleased for the players – that’s the main thing.
“They’ve put in an awful lot of work at the training ground, worked extremely hard, and you can see the team spirit that we’ve got.
“Nelson came in and was superb tonight, and I thought that Champion was superb tonight also.
“We’ve got good players and we’ve signed good players.
“It’s going to take some of them a little bit of time just to bed in and find their feet.
“But you’ve got to say that we are a squad – it was a unit of men that won the league last year, and you could see those same values and principles were in place to win won this game tonight.
“I know what these players can do.
“We beat MK Dons comfortably 3-1 a couple of weeks ago, and it could have been 6 or 7 I thought.
“And the game against Peterborough; although we lost I thought we played very well that night as well.
“So the result on Saturday didn’t faze me one little bit.
“I know what they can all do, I know what they’re all like, and I know what they’re capable of.
“And tonight they stood up when it was needed.”
