Martin Allen was pleased with the way that his side equipped themselves on Wednesday night, as they defeated Dover Athletic 3-0 at the Crabble to move two points clear at the top of the Vanarama Conference table.

Speaking after the game, the Barnet manager said:

“It was an efficient, disciplined, professional performance. We had a few scares it must be said, they put us under a bit of pressure.

“But on Saturday they won 4-1 and had signed four new players who were making their home debut so it was always going to be a difficult game.

“Our goalkeeper made a couple of great saves and then when the chances came our way we took them, and here we are with a clean sheet and three goals away from home, and of course three points in the bag.

“All round it was a good performance and a good job by everyone. There were quite a few supporters down here, and I thought that that was nice to see as I walked off near the end,

“With the game being on TV it would have been easy to opt out and stay at home so all credit to those supporters, as well as all the players and staff who once again have done a really good job for our club.”

Having already spoken earlier in the week of the importance of his squad, Martin once again praised the impact of some of the new faces that came into the side on Wednesday, particularly Luke Gambin who grabbed a brace from the bench:

“It really is a squad effort. I thought that Gambin was a little bit unlucky on Saturday. We didn’t get the ball down enough and play and pass it to his feet which he loves.

“The game just sort of whizzed past him, but tonight we got it down a little bit quicker and played a bit more and in that number ten position I thought he was exceptional when he came on.

“I also thought that Jamal Lowe did really well tonight, so I was really pleased for him. It was difficult leaving him out on Saturday and putting a 16-year-old in front of him but I just had a gut feeling that Matt

Stevens might do something in the last ten minutes after the way that he has been scoring for the Youth Team. Mugs also came on and did what he does so well for us.”

Despite the Bees registering their fifth consecutive win, Martin is refusing to get carried away and insists that his only focus is this weekend’s game away to AFC Telford United:

“It’s still too early to talk about league tables. We have got to concentrate on performance, and concentrate on both individuals and what we do collectively.

“Now, we have to concentrate on getting our players fit and ready for Saturday. We’ve got injuries and we’ve got people with knocks so we are going to have to manage it all properly and manage it well before we go up to Telford. We have got to go up there and carry out the job all over again.”
