Barnet FC is delighted to announce that midfielder Mark Shelton has agreed to join the Club.
Shelton will join The Bees having spent the previous two seasons at National League side Oldham Athletic. The 27-year-old made 35 appearances for The Latics, scoring twice.
The midfielder came through the ranks at Burton Albion before having spells at Ilkeston and Alfreton Town. Shelton then played a crucial role in helping Salford achieve back-to-back promotions from the National League North to the Football League.
A move to Hartlepool United followed where Shelton would spend the next four seasons. During his time with The Pools, he achieved his second promotion to the Football League as Hartlepool defeated Torquay United in the play-off final.
After making over 100 appearances for Hartlepool, Shelton made the move to Oldham Athletic.
On signing with Barnet, Shelton said,
“I’m really happy to get a deal over the line. I’ve spoken to the gaffer a few times and his enthusiasm for me joining was a major factor in my decision.
Barnet had a brilliant campaign last season and I want to play my part in getting the Club back into the Football League.
Can’t wait to get going.”
Barnet FC Manager Dean Brennan added,
“I’m delighted with this one! We tried to sign Shelts several times last season.
“He’s a player that I have admired for a long time. He’s a great character, hugely experienced and his mentality & attributes will help upgrade our midfield.”
Welcome to Barnet, Mark!
The deal is subject to the usual FA and League clearances.
