Charlie Clough becomes Barnet’s sixth addition of a busy January transfer window after completing a move from Forest Green Rovers for an undisclosed fee on Monday.
Born in Taunton, the 26-year-old has spent much of his career playing in the West County and started out with Bristol Rovers.
Charlie joined up with the Gas first team in 2007 and was handed his debut as a 68th-minute substitute against Brighton & Hove Albion in 2008.
The following season he was loaned to Mangotsfield United and Chippenham Town before joining Newport County and Weymouth during the 2009/10 season.
He also took in loan spells with Bath City, AFC Telford United and Dorchester Town, eventually joining the latter on a permanent basis in the summer of 2012 following his departure from the Memorial Stadium.
In November of the same year Charlie helped Dorchester pull off an FA Cup shocking, knocking out EFL side Plymouth Argyle 1-0 in the first round of the competition.
Charlie’s exploits with the Magpies saw him crowned Dorset Echo Player of the Year and, at the end of the 2012/13 campaign, he was reluctantly allowed to leave.
In September 2013 he joined National League South side Sutton United for an undisclosed fee. Amid reported interest from teams at a higher level he was awarded the captain’s armband.
The 2013/14 campaign saw Charlie and Sutton miss out on promotion as they lost out to Dover Athletic in the play-offs.
Charlie’s form for the U’s did not go unnoticed and, in January 2015, Forest Green Rovers snapped him up for an undisclosed fee.
Rovers ended the 2014/15 campaign in the National League play-off places with Charlie scoring twice in 19 league outings.
FGR lost out in the play-off semi-finals to Charlie’s former club Bristol Rovers before going one better the following year and reaching the Final where they were beaten 3-1 by Grimsby Town.
Charlie ended the 2015/16 season with one goal in 39 league outings and having won the Supporters’ Player of the Year award.
He leaves The New Lawn having helped Mark Cooper’s men to second in the National League standings, scoring four times in 25 appearances for FGR this term.
In November 2016 Charlie agreed a new long-term contract which tied him to Rovers until the summer of 2019.
