Henry Newman: “We’re going for the play-offs – make no mistake”

Henry Newman says Barnet’s aim very much remains a place in the EFL League Two play-offs but knows patience will be a virtue as he and Rossi Eames try to alter the mind-set at The Hive London.
The Bees head to Colchester United on Saturday (3pm kick-off) and find themselves behind the U’s on goal difference only, just four points shy of the play-offs.
A fine run of form through the winter months, in which Barnet have only been beaten four times in their last 16 league outings, leaves the top seven within touching distance with a third of the season remaining.
“We’ve got the balance between a group of players at the moment where we are pushing for the play-offs – make no mistake about that,” Newman said.
“However, in the background, we’ve also got an understanding and acceptance that we’re working with a team in its second year in League Two who finished 15th last year, had a comfortable season and a good run in the second half of the season to stave off any fears of relegation but were never pushing to go beyond that.
“It’s been similar to that in the first half of the season and what Rossi and I have done is try to change that mind-set of everybody.
“It’s not just little old Barnet. We’re Barnet Football Club and we’re trying to push up League Two and out of League Two as quickly as we can.
“That has been seen in our transfer activity but these things don’t happen overnight and it’s pleasing to see the realisation and acceptance of everybody in the FC that these things will take time. However, it’s mine and Rossi’s job to make sure that time is as short as possible.”
