Barnet Football Club and London Bees FC are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Graham Slyper, aged 82, following a long illness.
Graham played a significant role in the development and life of the Clubs over many years. As Chairman of Barnet Ladies, he was instrumental in establishing the foundations that would later become London Bees FC, and he remained a committed supporter of both the men’s and women’s sides, serving as a Director for both Clubs and continuing to attend matches whenever possible, even as his health declined. His most recent visit was at the end of January to see Barnet FC secure a late win against Tranmere Rovers.
Away from the pitch, Graham enjoyed a long and respected professional career, retiring in 2009 after 34 years as Head of Auctions at Strettons. A qualified surveyor, he worked with the Clubs on a number of property-related projects and sat on several boards and committees across the Clubs. This included involvement in safeguarding matters, as well as serving as a Trustee of The Hive Foundation, reflecting his commitment to strong governance and community responsibility.
Chairman, Anthony Kleanthous, said:
“Graham was the last of the original group who helped me with the Club back in the 1990s, and we will all really miss him.
He was a true gentleman who always gave of himself whenever asked and never expected anything in return. His advice, his steadiness and his presence around the Club meant a great deal to me over the many years.
Our deepest condolences go to Graham’s wife Gill, his children, and all of his family at this very difficult time.”
Graham’s passing will be felt by many across Barnet Football Club and London Bees, and by all who had the privilege of working with him.
As a mark of respect, players from Barnet FC and London Bees will wear black armbands during their respective fixtures this weekend.
Rest in peace, Graham.
