Game One Report: Barnet FC 2-3 Peterborough United

The first game of the afternoon between the Bees and Peterborough United ended with a narrow win for the Posh.

It was the championship side who struck first, as Idris Kanu tapped home from six yards after a well-worked move from the Posh saw them get into the Bees box.

The Posh went close again ten minutes later as Kanu was found in space at the back post, but the Trialist GK made a tremendous stop to turn the header around the post.

Harry Kewell’s men looked lively themselves and only a last-ditch clearance stopped Adam Marriott from connecting with Trialist A’s dangerous low cross.

New loan signing, Serhat Tasdemir, looked dangerous throughout his time on the pitch and placed a free-kick just wide of goal from 30 yards out.

Meanwhile, there was more good work from the Bees goalkeeper as he made an outstanding double stop to deny Siriki Dembele before making another stop from Kanu immediately after.

Darren Ferguson’s men had one just after the half hour mark as Sam Szmodics poked home after being set away by Dembele.

But the Bees responded and on 40 minutes they had one back, as Marriott expertly placed a free-kick under the wall and into the bottom corner, to score his first for the Club.

After a short break, it was the visitors who had the first chance of the second half, as Kanu headed over from eight yards after being found unmarked from a Posh free-kick.

Former Bee Jack Taylor did find himself on the scoresheet on his return to The Hive London, as he struck home on the turn after being found by Szmodics who clipped a ball into the area.

Kewell’s men almost responded on the hour mark, after a miscue at the back from the Posh gave Marriott the chance to add his second, but his close-range effort was well saved by David Cornell in the visitor’s goal.

The Bees went close again four minutes later, as Jamie Turley nodded Josh Doherty’s dangerous delivery just wide of the near post.

We did pull a goal back on 68 minutes after Josh Payne won the ball high up the pitch before the Bees worked it well to square for Trialist B who tapped home at the second attempt.

Bees: Trialist GK, Trialist A, Doherty, Turley, Greenidge (Trialist B 45′), Granville (Payne 45′), Richards-Everton, Brundle, Tasdemir, Marriott, Bloomfield. Â
