Edgar Davids was pleased following Barnet’s 1-3 win over St Albans at Clarence Park on Tuesday night.
Andy Yiadom opened the scoring with Harry Crawford adding a second before the break, Davids came off the bench in the second-half where Mauro Vilhete completed the scoring following an early second-half goal from the home side.
Speaking post-match Davids revealed that although there is work to do he was pleased with what he saw.
“It is always good to start with a win. I saw a lot of good things last night and a lot of things we can improve but I liked what I saw and we will build from that.
“The younger players did well and some even played in a trial game earlier in the day so we have already seen what they can do”
Davids continued by hailing the impact of new signing Anthony Acheampong who made his first start for the club.
“Anthony did very well, he definitely fits the squad and he looks like he has settled fast so I am happy he blended in very smoothly.”
The Conference Premier seems a long way away from Serie A and the Liga BBVA but Davids insisted the pressure and aims are the same.
“Now it is a different ball game, but you have to live with the pressure and I hope we are capable of doing that.
“It is always a new experience wherever you play but the objective is always the same and that is to win.”
Barnet kick-off their league campaign on August 10th against Chester FC and the 40-year-old is adamant that that the Bees cannot underestimate the league and it’s teams.
“We all know what we want to achieve as a club but everybody is talking about promotion and we cannot underestimate the league.
“You only have to look at Luton, they have a big budget but they have still not been promoted, it is still very early.”
He continued: “It won’t be a walk in the park, the players are real men and some of them go to work in the day and play at night. It will separate the men from the boys and this is what I tell the team.
“You have to be respectful and cautious, we try to build that in and we will do our best to achieve the best we can with the squad.”
