Darren Currie “We’ve got a nice platform to build on”

The Bees came from a goal down to take all three points and continue their unbeaten start to the National League season. Currie felt that the victory against the Magpies was nothing short of what his side deserved.

“We deserved it, no doubt about it, they scored against the run of play, at a time where I was happy with how we had started the game.”

“We then score from a well-worked set-piece which is extremely pleasing and it got us back into the game. We created more opportunities in the second half and thankfully Simeon has got on the end of a clever through ball from Jack Taylor and finished brilliantly”

Enzio Boldewijn’s superb strike put the hosts in front, but Currie hailed his side’s resilience to continue to play at the high level that the Bees boss knows his side can.

“We continued to do what we were doing well before we fell behind, we handled the ball well and got to the final third well”

“But in the second half we looked more dangerous and that is obviously what has led to us winning the game”

There were many superb individual performances on show at Meadow Lane yesterday evening and the Bees boss thought that his side played well individually as well as showing the team ethic that he demands.

“It has to be team, team everyone, team Barnet. We have got some great individual players that can contribute magic but it has to be in the team structure. But that’s the pleasing aspect the team is looking good and I’m hoping we only just get better”

Curries side find themselves with seven points from their opening three National League fixtures and the Boss is happy with his side’s start to the new season.

“If someone had offered me seven points in pre-season, with us playing two relegated teams and Sutton on a difficult pitch then, of course, I would have taken it.”

“It gives us a nice platform to build on, going into the remainder of the month where have some difficult games but it certainly gives us confidence”

The Bees were roared on by excellent away support at Meadow Lane yesterday and Currie was quick to highlight his attitude to the supporters.

“They have a massive part to play and when I say team they are part of that team. They can be the star man today because they were brilliant today”
