The Bees got off to the perfect start on Saturday afternoon having overcome newly relegated Yeovil Town 1-0 at The Hive to secure their first opening day victory since 2014.
Simeon Akinola was the only scorer on the day after earning a penalty himself, before calmly slotting into the bottom corner to essentially win the game for Currie’s said.
Looking ahead, the boss was confident that the team’s mentality will be right heading into the Sutton game, and that Saturday’s win over the Glovers can only boost their confidence.
He said: “There’s a positive mood, but we’re not getting carried away. It was a great way to start the season and we’re all pleased about that.
“With the amount of games coming up, there’s no respite – we’ve been back to work today.
“As long as you come through games like that, where you’re not quite at your best and you’re picking up points, then it will stand you in good stead.”
The Bees travel to Sutton on Tuesday evening as they look to continue their impressive start to the season.
The U’s also secured victory on the opening day, beating Hartlepool United 3-1 away from home.
As his side prepares for their next fixture, the boss is under no illusions as to the threat Tuesday night’s opponents pose and he ensures his team will have to be at their best to come away with a result.
He said: “They’ll be confident having won on the opening day of the season. Sutton’s was away from home so they’ll be looking forward to getting back on their own patch.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game there, but we’ll go there prepared.”
Darren has also provided an injury update on Shaquile Coulthirst who made a late cameo against Yeovil on Saturday afternoon.
The big forward picked up a slight injury toward the beginning of pre-season against Wycombe Wanderers and has been recovering ever since.
“He’s still not 100% fit,” said Currie.
“He’s training and he has a level of fitness but certainly not the fit and firing, covering every blade of grass type of player that we know he can be.
“He’s getting there, the same as one or two others. Josh Walker is getting there, he just needs to keep training and eventually, we’ll turn them into match minutes.
“As the month goes on, we’ll have one or two more back around the team and there will be a healthier group to pick from.”
