Currie thrilled with Woking triumph

On the performance

It was a terrific away performance, we had to defend with quality and we needed our men out there today. I thought Ricardo and Sweeney were gigantic for us tonight and Cheye and Elliott as well. But the two big boys dealing with the aerial balls, were absolutely awesome.

As a team we defended and worked our socks off, some will say that is a minimum requirement and of course it is. But to be defensively as solid as we looked and have that sort of devastation on the counter-attack as well, I’m really pleased tonight.

On some key blocks in the first half

They are game-changing moments, they are like goals and Loachy makes big saves, they are game-changing moments. Those last-ditch tackles, they are all the things that we are going to have to do. Then it’s up to the boys up front when they get their game changing moments to make the difference. Macca (McCallum) got his reward and then Josh Walker has come on and got two terrific goals as well, he may have got another one as well.

The moments when we needed to stand up and be counted at both ends of the pitch, we stood up today.

On the strikers getting on the scoresheet

I’ve learnt very quickly as a manager that you have to disappoint people and leave people out. You can only pick 11, but when Josh Walker comes on and scores two goals like that, it’s two fingers up at me for not picking him! I love all that and that’s what we need.

Charlee Adams as well, I have left him out after he played really well at Boreham Wood, he doesn’t want to look me in the eye, because he’s probably hating me at the minute. But he’s come on for five minutes from the end, put his body on the line and played the ball for the third goal. I have said that we need everyone, there is going to be disappointment if you aren’t in the team but I have got a lot of people that want to play every week. Brilliant! That’s what I’m looking forward to.

On the mentality of wanting to play throughout the squad

We’re on a good run and the changing room is a real tight nit group and they all want to play. I got left out a million times and it’s horrible being left out of a team that’s going well, but when you got your moments you have to take them. Credit to Charlee, Walks and Ephron when he came on, we changed our shape at half time to make sure we were a little bit more solid down the sides.

It’s a great night for us, I’m delighted for everyone and the fans. I love nights like this!

On Josh Walker’s impact

I don’t know whether it’s difficult (coming from the bench), you have to seize the moment and he’s done brilliantly to get himself two terrific goals. He’s a young man who’s new at this level, but he is fantastic in front of goal. That’s now 14 for the season for him, so I’m really pleased for him, it’s unfortunate how his chance come about, Simeon has damaged his hamstring, I don’t know how serious just yet. I’m happy with my squad, so when the door shuts for one it opens for another.

On winning a crucial game in hand

It’s pleasing, it’s only given us three points. I am absolutely over the moon at the minute but we will calm down and have a chat on the bus on the way home. We’ll regroup and reset ourselves to go again, but what we have always spoken about is making the games in hand count and we have done that on this occasion. It is pleasing that we have turned a recent run of draws into victory, on the back of a long journey Saturday.

It is important we get our preparation right because we have another long journey ahead of us on Saturday.

On the fans

They are hopefully enjoying what they are seeing at the moment and we are enjoying playing in front of them. There is the togetherness that I have been thinking about from day one and moments like tonight, without getting carried away we have taken three points, it’s a wonderful performance. Everyone goes home happy again and now we move onto the next one.
