Community | More success for the Barnet Walking Football Team

Prior to our Middlesex Senior Cup Semi-Final at Silver Jubilee Park, the Barnet Old Boys were also in action against Hendon. On a cold evening, the WFT won a hard-fought derby match 2-0.

The game started with Hendon peppering the Bees goal, Nick Krieger pulling off a succession of excellent saves. A long ball from Shaun Sherrick was allowed to run out of play by the Hendon defence but Brian Spenceley
never gave up and stopped the ball on the line and crossed for Steve Chittenden to fire home.

With Tom Moran marshalling the defence and Adrian Rose causing problems, they held strong against Hendon pressure and Barnet eventually broke clear with Chittenden setting up Spenceley to fire home the second.

Last weekend saw the return of the FA Peoples Cup and the Walking Football Team featured in an 11 team tournament which featured some very strong sides from Watford and QPR. The Black and Amber reached the final!

Results:
Barnet 1-1 Watford A
Barnet 1-0 Cedars.
Barnet 0-0 RIP B
Barnet 6-0 Barnet Purple
Barnet 2–1 QPR
Barnet 2-0 RIP A – Semi final
Barnet 0-1 Watford A – Final

The Black & Amber had a very good tournament, were tactically aware with excellent passing skills, the team looked confident going into the group stage match vs QPR.

The boys knew they had to win against the tournament favourites to qualify for the knockout rounds.

It was a hard-fought match and, thankfully, an excellent referee controlled both teams very well. After racing into a 2-0 lead, Barnet managed to see out the game and send home the favourites with the Bees keeper making a string of excellent saves.

The semi-final saw Barnet against our old friends RIP and we eased through 2-0

The final against Watford A was always going to be tough, our fixture with QPR left the Bees with 3 players injured and our centre-forward unable to play.
It was a very close game and a late goal by Watford settled it.

An excellent tournament and they took home a medal to remember it by.
